Obituary for Norma Jean Olar (Pringle)

Norma “Jean” Olar (Pringle), 90, of Lake George, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at MyMichigan Health-Midland surrounded by Kellie and Kara. Jean was born July 16, 1933 in National City, Michigan, the daughter of Kenneth Marlin Pringle and Beulah Minnie (Norris) Pringle. Jean was united in marriage to Mr. Norman Walter Olar on July 1, 1955 in Turner, Michigan. Mr. Olar preceded Jean in death on May 1, 1990, after thirty-four years of marriage.

Jean and her husband Norman owned and operated a construction company that took them all over the United States. One of Jean's dreams was to be a mom. After seven years of marriage, they had Kellie and two years later, Boyd was born. Some of Jean’s many hobbies included: flying their airplanes, snowmobile racing (one of first lap counters at the International 500 Snowmobile Race), riding dirt bikes, hunting, fishing, reloading, mushroom hunting, mountain climbing, world travel, dancing (polka was her favorite!), exploring museums, rock picking, gardening/landscaping and creating fun for kids, including building a putt-putt in her backyard!

Jean started each morning by enjoying coffee in her sunroom. She enjoyed watching the birds come into the feeders, even the ducks (whom she named Stan and Fran). While she loved the wildlife around her, what she really loved was her family. She especially loved being a (great-)grandma and loved selflessly, whether by helping with college, making sure your sock drawer was well-stocked, or by making sure you knew how proud of you she was. She lived with such vitality that it’s no wonder she needed a daily afternoon nap.

Throughout her life, she made everyone that she came in contact with feel as if they were family and enjoyed expressing this love through cooking for and with others. Her family will cherish the many delicious meals and sparking conversations shared over Jean’s kitchen table. Now in death, Jean is looking forward to being reunited with long-passed loved ones to continue the conversation Upstairs! Jean ended each day with a bible study. She was looking forward to meeting God and Jesus as she was a strong Christian.

Surviving Mrs. Olar are her two children; Boyd Olar and wife Kari of West Haven, Utah, and Kellie Pruyt of Lake George, Michigan, five grandchildren; Whitney (Mike) Farley, Ryan (Carly) Olar, Briana (David) Sprague, Amber (Christopher) Haley, and Kara (Justin) Rodgers, ten great-grandchildren, plus many nieces, nephews and extended family. Mrs. Olar was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters; Beverly (Pringle) Gratopp and Grace (Pringle) Spiker.

Jean wanted to positively impact the betterment and continuing education of
healthcare, and requested her family to fulfill her wishes by donating her body to University of
Michigan’s Anatomical Donation Program. To share an online memory or condolence with Norma’s family, please visit: www.clarkstocking.com. Arrangements for Mrs. Olar are entrusted with Clark- Stocking Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service (989)539-7810.
