JUHASZ, DR. PAUL, age 93 of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Friday, August 12, 2022, at his home.
Paul was born on May 25, 1929 in Tekovske Luzany, Czechoslovakia, the son of Pàl Juhasz and Lydia Fehero Juhaszova. After surviving the challenges of World War 2 as a teen, Dr. Paul began medical school in Hungary and completed his medical studies in Czechoslovakia. He married his beloved wife, Dr. Maria Sekerova, on August 12, 1961 in Czechoslovakia. He and Maria later fled the spread of communism to Czechoslovakia and bravely emigrated to the United States in December, 1969, with their two young daughters to seek freedom and a new life in America. Drs. Paul and Maria completed their medical board recertifications in Chicago, Illinois, then practiced medicine in in Racine, Wisconsin and Newberry, Michigan before moving to Norton Shores. Dr. Paul was in private practice in Muskegon from 1974-1979. Dr. Paul and Dr. Maria moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1979, where they were staff physicians at the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center until Dr. Maria retired and Dr. Paul left for a part-time position in Lansing to conduct health screenings for State of Michigan employees. After his retirement, Dr. Paul enjoyed numerous hobbies, including cooking, wood working, gardening, traveling, and spending winter months with Dr. Maria in Naples, Florida. Throughout his medical career Dr. Paul was passionate about medicine, compassionate with patients, and dedicated to giving care. Dr. Paul loved to share stories about his life in Czechoslovakia, including tales about his many adventures as a young physician. He was a kind hearted, intelligent, determined husband, father, grandfather, and friend who delighted in sharing his hospitality and “sweet stuff” with all who knew him.
Dr. Paul enjoyed celebrating his Christian faith and attended mass with Dr. Maria at St. Mary’s Catholic University Parish for many years. Following COVID and the onset of health challenges, Dr. Paul was also a dedicated viewer of live broadcasts from Ft. Wayne’s Lutheran Seminary: Worship Anew.
Dr. Juhasz is survived by his daughters, Maria Juhasz of Florida, Dr. Susan (Eric) Juhasz Stoll of Ada, Michigan; grandsons Nicholas and Andre Stoll; niece Katarina and nephew Akos, both of Slovakia. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dr. Maria Juhasz; and sister Katarina.
