Obituary for Richard Lee "Rick" Erskin

ERSKIN, RICHARD LEE “Rick”, age 75, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, FL after a 17- year battle with heart disease.

The family will receive friends at Clark Family Funeral Chapel, 114 South Bradley Street, Mt Pleasant, on Sunday, April 25 from 2pm-6pm. Services for Rick will be held at Mount Pleasant Community Church, 1400 W. Broomfield St., Mt. Pleasant, on Monday, April 26 at 1pm with Pastor Wally Hostetter officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Weidman. Memorial contributions may be made to Vestaburg Sports Boosters. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and Community Church.

Rick was born on December 23, 1945 in Vestaburg, the son of Evan and Ella (St. Peter) Erskin. He grew up in Vestaburg where he attended Vestaburg Community School. During his high school years he participated in football, basketball, baseball and track. Rick was inducted into the Vestaburg Sports Hall of Fame in 2020. He served proudly in the Marine Corps from 1965-1967. During that time, he was stationed at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in Orange County, CA. Rick married Paula Peavey on August 30, 1980 in Mt. Pleasant. He was employed by Consumers Energy for 40 years and retired in 2007. Upon retirement, Rick volunteered as an assistant coach with Central Michigan University Softball for 10 years. He absolutely loved every single minute of those 10 years. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing and coaching softball and basketball, golfing, bowling, biking, and all water sports.

Rick is survived by his wife, Paula Erskin, of Mt. Pleasant; daughters, Aleece (Ron) Decker of Livingston, MT and Kimberlee Erskin of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Daniel Erskin, Austin (Maisy) Andrade, Alexandria Kurowski, Evan Decker, Luke Decker, and Philip Decker; father-in-law, Russell Peavey of Coldwater Lake; sister, Nan Peavey of Mt. Pleasant; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jeff and Susan Peavey of Beal City; brother-in-law, Johnny Peavey of St. Ignace; nephews, Christopher (Carolyn) Peavey of Kingwood, TX, Brent (Aspen) Peavey of Lake Isabella, Jason Peavey of Lake Isabella, and niece, Dany (Kevin) Maloney of Chanhassen, MN; great-nephews, Jackson Peavey, Benjamin Peavey, Ethan Maloney, Braden Maloney, Jace Peavey, and Harper Peavey; and great-niece Cameron Maloney. Rick also had many dear friends.

He cherished all his friendships and never knew a stranger.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law, Dee Peavey.
