Obituary for Richard John Farner
FARNER, RICHARD JOHN, age 78, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Laurels of Mt. Pleasant.
A Memorial Service for Richard will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Monday, April 17, 2023, at 12 p.m. with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. A luncheon will be held immediately following in Reflections Reception Center. The family will receive friends on Monday beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Richard was born in Detroit, Michigan, January 29, 1945, the son of June Walters. He was adopted at the age of 2 years old by John and Orielda (Schafer) Farner. Richard graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic Schools in 1963. Soon after graduation, he served in the U.S. Army. His true passion was farming; Richard farmed his entire life. He loved his flower and vegetable gardens, beekeeping, fishing, and hunting. Richard enjoyed talking with people, and liked volunteering to help where he was needed. He will be remembered for being a simple man; his generosity and hard work ethic will be missed by many.
Richard is survived by his nieces, Penny Lane of Mt. Pleasant, Laureen Crowley of Shepherd; great-nephews Brandon, Trevor, Jakeb Seymour, Logan Crowley; great-niece Samantha Crowley; special friend at The Laurels, Emma; and his most dedicated, long time friend of the Farner family, Joe and Janis Carroll of Mt. Pleasant.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Jean Marie Foster.
Richard’s family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Laurel’s of Mt. Pleasant for their exceptional care treating him like family. Also, his friends and neighbors who have helped with his lawn care are so appreciated.
