Obituary for Robert Lee "Cowboy Bob" Averill

AVERILL, ROBERT LEE “COWBOY BOB”, age 89, of Carrolton, formerly of Farwell, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024, at My Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Midland.

Funeral Services for “Cowboy Bob” will take place at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Tuesday January 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ron Ives officiating. The family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Immediately following the service, there will be a luncheon in Reflections Reception Center. Interment will take place on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to Potter’s House Family Worship Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Bob was born in Dorr, Michigan, on December 31, 1934, the son of Charles and Catherine (Judson) Averill. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force. Bob retired from General Motors after 31 years. Following retirement, Bob worked as a security guard for a few years, and was a bus driver for Dean Transportation for 8 years. He also served on the Clinton County Sherriff’s Posse for 6 years. Bob was a member of the UAW 652 and the American Legion. He loved horses and traveled with rodeos. Bob also liked hunting, traveling, and loved to play baseball.

Bob is survived by his sons, Robert (Michelle) Averill, Jr. of Fowler, Matt (Mary) Averill of Hemlock; 7 grandchildren; and brother Ken (Mary) Averill of Thermopolis, WY.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and infant son.
