Obituary for Robert Joseph Coughlin

On April 6, 2023, Robert Joseph Coughlin left this earth to join his mother, Carol, in a painless paradise.

Rob was born on November 21, 1963, to loving parents Carol and Joseph in Harrison, Michigan.

He is survived by his father, Joseph F. Coughlin; brothers, Lee Coughlin (Deb), David Coughlin (Donita), and Brian Coughlin (Dionne). Rob will also be missed by his nieces and nephews, Elle, Erin, Connor, Trevor, Carly, Nicole, Bret, and Joel.

Rob is preceded in death by his mother, Carol C. Leinweber on September 20, 2008.

Rob was a Michigan State fan and would have been studying Chemical Engineering back in the 80’s. No doubt graduating with top honors, Rob was a proud Spartan cheering for green and white with plans to pursue medicine and journalism.

Rob was an inspiration to us all - known for his persistence and hard work, witty humor and personality - well-liked by all who worked with him. You could always count on Rob for a hard-gripping hand-shake hello followed by a peace sign to let you know he cared. Rob loved the Beatles as much as a cup of coffee and competitive game of scrabble. Rob will truly be missed by his family and those that tended to his care.

The family would like to extend extreme gratitude to Rob’s care facilities over the years: Tangram Rehabilitation Network in Reedville, Texas, and Hope Network of Grand Rapids.
They allowed Rob to live his best life with recovery activities and great social opportunities.

Rob’s life will be celebrated with family at the Clark-Stocking Funeral Chapel in Harrison on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 9:00 to 11:00am with rosary services following at 11:00am.

Thoughts and prayers for Rob and his family are greatly appreciated. Donations on behalf of Robert J. Coughlin would be appreciated to Hope Network Neuro Rehabilitation, 1490 East Beltline, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 or the Brain Injury Association of Michigan.

Forever Peace sign to you Rob. Love from us all.
