Obituary for Robert Lee McDonald

Robert Lee McDonald (Bob), age 83, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Laurels of Mt. Pleasant.

Robert was born June 18, 1940, in Massillon, OH, the son of the late John Joseph Hurley McDonald and Lucille Irene (Bevan) McDonald. After completing high school Robert served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961. Robert married Margaret Mary Mirka on August 28, 1965. Robert worked as a Mount Pleasant City police officer from 1970 to 1987. From 1987 to 1992 Robert was the Isabella County District Court Magistrate. Upon retiring Robert received his Bachelor of Science from Central Michigan University and went on to earn a Master of Art in History. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Robert enjoyed golfing, bowling, and camping with his family. He also enjoyed building model rockets with his son, Chris.

Robert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret McDonald, children; Stephanie (Tony) Weems of Patoka, IL, Christopher (Melissa) McDonald of Tuson, AZ, Jennifer (Jeff) Newton of Farmington Hills, MI, Kimberly (Dale) Thompson of New Orleans, LA, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, brother; John McDonald of Gifhorn, Germany, and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass for Robert will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant, on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Loren Kalinowski officiating. Burial will follow at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery in Shepherd. A luncheon will be held at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Clark Family Funeral Chapel, and on Saturday, at the church, beginning at 9 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to contribute in memory of Robert are asked to consider the VA Wounded Warriors Project. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church.
