Obituary for Roger Norman Freling

Roger Norman Freling, 87, passed away April 24, 2024 at Woodland Hospice in Mount Pleasant.

Roger was born May 15, 1936 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Doris and Norman Nicholas Freling. Roger taught Composition and Literature at Central Michigan University for over 30 years, specializing in European and Russian literature. Roger loved traveling and exploring a variety of cuisines. He was also an excellent cook and an extremely accomplished chess player.

Roger is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Mary Ann, and his two cherished sons and daughters-in-law, Eric (Shannon), and Nick (Perri) Freling, and two adored grandchildren, Kurt and Andrea. He is also survived by his brother Don (Pam) Freling and sister Judy (Roger) Couch.

Per Roger’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Those wishing to share a memory of Roger and celebrate his life with his family are invited to stop by Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 3 to 6 p.m. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in memory of Roger may want to consider a donation to Woodland Hospice in Mount Pleasant or the Humane Animal Society (HATS). Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
