Obituary for Ruth Smith (Varney)
SMITH, RUTH W., age 102, of Rosebush, passed away Friday, February 19, 2021, at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility under the care of Heartland Hospice.
The family will receive friends at a public visitation at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, February 23, from 5-8 p.m. Private Funeral Services for Ruth will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. Friends are invited to attend the services via a live broadcast on Wednesday, February 24, at 11 a.m. by visiting the webcasting link at Ruth’s Book of Memories at www.clarkfuneralchapel.com or www.facebook.com/clarkfuneralchapel. Interment will follow in Denver Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Ruth was born on April 13, 1918, in Denver Township, the daughter of Jay and Blanche (Little) Varney. She married Don D. Smith on January 21, 1945, in Oil City. Ruth was an avid reader who loved to read her Bible. She enjoyed watching western and suspense movies. She liked horses and loved her cats.
Ruth is survived by her children, Joe S. Smith of Rosebush, Larry D. (Doylene) Smith of Shepherd, Dale J. (Karen) Smith of Rosebush, and Nora J. Hyatt of Midland; step-daughter, Nancy (Don) Retzloff of Sanford; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Don D. Smith on January 23, 1989; parents; son-in-law Dennis Hyatt; sisters Velma Variety, Gertrude Looten, and infant sister Nina.
