Obituary for Shirley Elizabeth Totten

Totten, Shirley Elizabeth, age 94, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Rosebush Manor.

Funeral Services for Shirley will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Monday, August 30, 2021, at 11 a.m. with Benjamen Evers officiating. Shirley will be interred in Riverside Cemetery next to her husband. A luncheon will follow graveside services in the Reflections Reception Center. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 29 at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Rosebush Manor or Mid-Michigan Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the chapel.

Shirley was born December 22, 1926, in Big Rapids, the daughter of Jay and Eunice (Whitscell) Lewis. She was a graduate of Big Rapids High School. Shirley married Johnie Edward Totten on May 11, 1946, in Big Rapids. She worked as a secretary at Ganiard School and with Adult Education, retiring after 28 years. She was a member of the Rosebush United Methodist Church.

Shirley is survived by her children, Rohnna Bridget (Steve) of Mt. Pleasant, Rodney Totten of Clare, Robin Sargent (Steve) of Mt. Pleasant and Rhea Lewis (Chuck) of Coleman; son-in-law Jim Haught of Wellston; daughter-in-law Penny Totten of Escanaba; grandchildren, Johnna Totten, Shawn (Joey) Bridget, Shayne (Amy) Bridget, John Haught, Jeff Sandel, Allison (Katie) Sargent, Christopher Sargent, Gabriel Lewis and Nathan (Caili) Lewis; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Sandel, Eathan Sandel, Bodie Lewis, Rhett Lewis, Lexi Sponseller, Alex Fuja, Jacob Bridget, Seth Bridget, and Blake Bridget; great-great-grandchild, Greyson Sandel, sisters-in-law Evelyn Dunn, Pat Skipper and Elsie Grosbeck; and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband Johnie Totten (1995); her son Richard Totten (2010); daughter Rebecca Haught (2020); grandson Jacob Totten (2005); daughter-in-law Lou Ann Totten (2018); brothers Harley (Bertha) Galor and Jack (Betty) Lewis; and sister Ida (John) Ryan.
