Obituary for Stanley Milton Beard Sr.

BEARD, STANLEY MILTON, SR., age 102, of Ithaca, formerly of New York, California, and New Jersey, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at Rosewood Adult Foster Care in Ithaca.

Funeral Services for Stanley will take place on Saturday, August 3, 2019, at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Sr. Diane Stier officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow at the Parish Hall. The family will receive friends on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in Maple Grove Park Cemetery, 535 Hudson Street, Hackensack, NJ on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmaus Monastery, 10154 N. Pine Grove Rd., Vestaburg, Michigan 48891. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Stanley was born March 29, 1917, in Franklinton, NC, the son of Peter and Gertrude (Harris) Beard. He made his career as a Restaurant Captain at internationally renowned Birdland Jazz Club in New York City, as well as Meadowlands Sports Complex in New Jersey. Stanley retired in 1987 at the age of 70. He was married to Mamie Lee (McCluster) Beard, who preceded him in death, and Maxine (Stone) Beard, who also predeceased him. Stanley enjoyed fishing, gardening, landscaping, playing cards, and watching movies and political talk shows. He also had a love for classical and jazz music. Stanley was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.

Stanley is survived by his children Patricia Ashburne of Yonkers, NY, Sr. Linda-Susan Beard of Vestaburg, Diana (Allen) Beard-Williams of Palmdale, CA, Stanley (Brenda) Beard, Jr. of Lanham, MD; step-children Frank Stone of CA, Gwen (Pastor Philip) Wesley of FL, Lisa Stone of VA; “adopted” daughter Rev. Sr. Diane Stier of Vestaburg; 3 grandchildren Christopher Williams-Brown, Carrie Williams-Brown, and Michael (Ashley) Austin Beard; and great-granddaughter Madeleine Williams-Brown.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; stepson Bobby Stone; grandson David Lee Johnson; 10 siblings; and nieces Shirley, Gertrude and Mabel.
