Obituary for Thomas Richard "Tom" Pohl

Thomas “Tom” Richard Pohl, age 71, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away unexpectedly on January 5, 2023, at his home.

Tom was born in Mt. Pleasant on October 27, 1951, the son of Richard and Ernestine (Pickens) Pohl. He married the love of his life Glenda Brown on April 21, 1978 in Mt. Pleasant. Tom worked for Union 25 as an Iron Worker for 30 years. Tom cared for everything; neighbors, friends, family, plants, and animals and he loved being a farmer. He was passionate about watching the Tigers, Lions, and MSU. Tom would always call and text others during the games. He was a news junkie and a collector of knowledge and things. Tom will be remembered as a great pigeon and chicken fancier. He was involved in the Bay City Pigeon Fanciers Association, the Michigan Bird and Game Breeders Club, the Freemont Pigeon Club, the Local 25 Iron Workers Union, the Weidman Eagles, and the Rosebush Methodist Church. Above all things in Tom’s life, spending time with his family was the most important to him.

Tom is survived by his wife of 44 years, Glenda Pohl; children, Cammie Cantrell, Jon (Diane) Pohl, Aaron (Holly) Pohl, Abby (Bryn) Williams; mother, Ernestine Pohl; grandchildren, Alex, Savannah, Julian, Juliana, Jaylen, Eli, Emma, Sophie, Michael, Amelia, Arianna, Ford; siblings, Karen (Howard) Pohl, Diane (Bill) Wilson, Randy Pohl, Dennis (Anita) Pohl, Ed (Sue) Pohl, Dave (Carol) Pohl, Rick Pohl, Deb (Ross) Nartker, Shari (Tony) Jones.

Preceded in death by his father, Richard Pohl; brother, Kevin Pohl.

Per Tom’s wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place at the Rosebush United Methodist Church in Rosebush Michigan on Wednesday January 11, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Joe Beavan officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow at the church. Visitation will start Wednesday at 10am and continue until the time of service. Memorial contributions in memory of Tom may be made to the wishes of the family. Envelopes will be available to the church.
