Obituary for Thomas Darryl Wyatt

Thomas Darryl Wyatt (82) of Mt Pleasant MI passed away peacefully at his winter home in Texas home on May 30, 2021.

Tom (“Tex” as he was known by his closest friends) was born December 20,1938 in Camden TN to Thomas H and Lorene L (Bond) Wyatt. Their family moved to Melvindale and then Allen Park, Michigan where he was raised along with his younger sister Carol Sue Wyatt.

Tom was raised in the Baptist faith and kept a true and lasting commitment to the values of prayer, hard work, sacrifice, faith and truth.

Tom attended Central Michigan College (University) for two years earning state championship status on the Track and Field Cross Country team. He left college joining the US Navy where he was in active service for two years and a reservist for many more years.

It was at an Enlisted Mens’ dance that he met his wife Lynne. They married in 1963 and started their family in Allen Park, MI.

In 1978, they moved to their home in Mount Pleasant, MI lovingly dubbed Wyatt’s Wranch. They lived there for 40 years before retirement when they moved to their condo in Mount Pleasant and enjoyed many winters together in Rockport, TX.

Together, Tom and Lynne have raised three children: Jenifer (Craig) Wicke, Jessica (Tony) Lamson and Eric (Carmen) Wyatt.

He loved and enjoyed spending time with their 6 grandchildren - Christina, Kelly, Megan, Tyler (Jenifer); Abigail and Gavin (Eric); and 5 great grandchildren.

Tom was a devoted husband and dad, an unfailing provider and Captain of his family. Tom was also a woodworker; an avid sportsman and fisherman spending time on Midwestern lakes and streams and enjoying camping around the nation. He also dabbled in amateur winemaking for many years.

He worked for AAA Michigan for 38 years and was an active member of the Lions Club, a founding member of Central Michigan Steelheaders and a member of Trout Unlimited and Ducks Unlimited.

His life is like that of a mighty oak. While he may have been felled by time, those who knew him and lived with him understand the treasure in the grain. We value the many years of life, growth and the stories held in the wood, and in every acorn shed.

A Memorial Service for Tom will take place Friday, July 9, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. A luncheon will immediately follow in Reflections Reception Center. The family will greet friends beginning at 12 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to: Woodland Hospice House, 2597 S. Meridian Rd., Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral chapel.
