Obituary for Verdena Anne Ireland

IRELAND, VERDENA ANNE, age 93, of Lake Isabella, formerly of Midland, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Schnepp Senior Care and Rehab Center in St. Louis, Michigan.

A Celebration of Life for Verdena will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Wheeler Road Church of Christ in Midland with Mr. James Chilton officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 12 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to The Braile and Talking Book Library, PO box 11027, Lansing, MI 48901. Verdena was born in Gilmore Township, Isabella County, on August 10, 1927, the daughter of Laverne and Ruth (McNeal) Perry. She graduated from Midland High School with the class of 1946. Verdena married John Ireland on June 30, 1951. After 56 years of marriage, John passed away on November 23, 2007. Verdena was a switchboard operator; she began her career with Michigan Bell and eventually went to work for Dow Chemical where she worked for many years. Verdena was an active, faithful member of The Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading, crafting, sewing, and cross stitching. Her family was what she treasured the most in life. Time spent visiting with family and making memories was most important to her. She will always be remembered by her words of wisdom that made a positive impact on all of her family and friends.

Verdena is survived by her children: Cathy Ries of Rochester Hills, MI, Craig (Dorothy) Ireland of Huntsville, TX, Suzanne (Scott) Fuson of Bloomington, IN; grandchildren: Kelly (Aaron) Westerfield, Tina (Nathan) Gurganus, John Tyler (Bianca) Ireland, Alexis (Stefan) Coonan, Zachary Fuson; great-grandchildren Shawn and Kaitlyn Westerfield, Wyatt Gurganus, Travis Koppinger, Baby Coonan on the way; sister-in-law Mildred Perry; and many loving nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Verdena was preceded in death by her parents; husband; great grandson Ethan Gurganus; sister Violet Jean Downing; and brothers Richard and Paul Perry.
