Obituary for Virginia "Dawn" McKnight
McKnight, Virginia “Dawn”, age 87, of Rosebush, died Wednesday, January 23, 2019, (4:10 p.m.) with her family by her side.
A Memorial Service to celebrate and honor Dawn’s life will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Sunday, February 10, 2019, at 12:30 p.m. A Luncheon will immediately follow in the Reflections Reception Center. The family will receive friends at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on the day of the Service from 11:30 until the time of Service. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of donor’s choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Virginia, known as Dawn by family and friends, was born on May 4, 1931, in Clare, MI, to Milford “Dale” and Crystal Lucile (Letson) Drake. She attended Clare High School where she met her future husband, Benny. In 1950 she married her high school sweetheart Frank “Benny” McKnight. Dawn earned a bachelor of science in education and a master of arts from CMU. Dawn and Benny moved to the McKnight family farm in Rosebush, where they raised 8 children. Her husband and children were her greatest loves. Dawn worked as an elementary school teacher and librarian at Coleman and Farwell School Districts. After retiring from teaching, she received her realtor’s license and worked at Century 21 in Mt. Pleasant. Dawn had a love for crossword puzzles and books which she passed down to her children and grandchildren. Dawn was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Master Gardener’s Club and was well known for her gorgeous flower beds. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant General Federation of Women’s Club since 1987, serving as president from 1998-2000, and was an Art Reach Docent (picture lady) in Mt. Pleasant.
Dawn is survived by her children, Christine, Beth (Joe) Forest, Scott McKnight, Pam McKnight, Cheryl (Mike) Davis, David (Tracy) McKnight and April (Ben Bosworth); grandchildren, Stephanie, Ben, Jason, Mitch, Lydia, Michael, Robby, Steven, Shawn, Amanda, Amy, Michelle, Kellyn, Geena and Calvin; and 16 great-grandchildren; siblings Jo Ann, Jean, William, Ronald, Roger, Janice, Linda, Celia, Alison and Jane.
Dawn was preceded in death by her husband, Frank “Benny” McKnight; eldest son, Frank Wesley “Lee” McKnight; and parents, Milford Dale and Crystal Lucile Drake.
