Obituary for Virginia Mae Showalter (Curtiss)

Virginia Showalter, age 96, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Monday, August 29, 2022, at New Hope Assisted Living under the care of Careline Hospice.

Funeral Services for Virginia will be held at the Winn United Methodist Church on Friday, September 2, 2022, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Cindi Greene officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery. A Luncheon will follow the committal service back at the church. The family will receive friends at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Thursday, September 1, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church the day of the service from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Winn United Methodist Church or New Hope Assisted Living. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church.

Virginia was born on July 3, 1926, in Fremont Township, daughter of Oscar and Maye (Lint) Curtiss. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class of 1944, in Shepherd. Virginia married Russell Showalter on August 24, 1945, in Fremont Township. Virginia was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to bake, especially her famous chocolate chip cookies, which seemed to make their way to all of her grandchildren's' sporting events. She was passionate about gardening and mowing the lawn. Russell claimed she would have mowed the whole 80 acres had she been given the opportunity. Virginia was a member of the Eastern Stars, a 4 H leader, and very involved in her church.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Nora Johnston; daughters-in-law, Linda and Pat Showalter; grandchildren, Mike, Matt, and Mark Showalter; Melanie Bila, Daniel Kusbel, Juli Grage, James Hughes, Kale, Cody, and Keagen Showalter; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Showalter; children, Roger, Craig, and Curtiss Showalter; parents; grandson, Daryl Kusbel; and brother, Stanley Curtiss.
