Obituary for William Samuel Cushing
William “Bill” Samuel Cushing 86 of rural Gladwin, Michigan went to be with his Lord on Monday, August 12, 2019. William was born April 13, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Mark William Cushing and Doris (Shreves) Cushing. Upon graduating from high school, William enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict. Bill was united in marriage to the former Beverly M. Aitken on May 25, 1963 in Oakland County, Michigan.
Mr. Cushing had resided in Gladwin since 1993, moving from Rochester Hills, Michigan. Bill was a member of Grace Fellowship Church, Gladwin, Michigan. Bill volunteered over fifteen years transporting many folks to doctors appointments. He enjoyed going to McDonalds Restaurant every morning to sit at the “round table” and visit over a cup of coffee. Many will remember Bill as a social butterfly and funny storyteller. He spent over thirty years as a self-employed drywall contractor, house remodeler and property manager. When Bill wasn’t working or volunteering, he was a sports enthusiast, enjoying baseball, golf and watching Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions televised games.
Surviving Mr. Cushing is his loving wife and best friend of fifty-six years, Mrs. Beverly M. Cushing of Gladwin, one daughter, Kim Rosseter, one son, Jason Cushing and wife Juanita, five grandchildren; Nicole, Austin, Crystal, Grace and Pyper, one brother, Doran Cushing, plus many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Daisy. Mr. Cushing was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Terry Cushing.
Funeral services honoring Mr. Cushing will be held Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. from Grace Fellowship Church, 4031 Adams Road, Gladwin, Michigan 48624, with Pastor Rick Tarter officiating. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison and again on Thursday, August 15, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at Grace Fellowship Church. Military Honors will be presented to Mr. Cushing immediately following church services, under the auspices of V.F.W. Post 1075 of Harrison. Burial will be in Hamilton Township Cemetery, Harrison.
