Obituary for William Grant "Bill" Kinner

Print
William (“Bill”) Grant Kinner Jr., 74, returned to his heavenly home on October 3, 2018. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Bill was born to the late William (“Grant”) and Patricia (“Pat”) Kinner, a plumber and a homemaker respectively, in Detroit Michigan on May 8, 1944. He grew up in Detroit, attending St John Berchmans church and school and later entered the Servite Seminary in Chicago, Illinois. After high school, Bill became a plumber apprentice, working while he studied Engineering at the University of Detroit and Wayne State University earning his degree in 1968. He went on to serve as a Captain in the United States Air Force, stationed at Hill Air Force base near Ogden, Utah. Bill returned to Michigan in 1973, working most of his career with Donald Miller and Albert Kahn & Associates, retiring in 2007.
Bill was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend Annette Elizabeth Peltier (who he affectionately referred to as Annie) on February 10, 1968 in Detroit, Michigan. Along with Annie, Bill raised four children. Through hard work and sacrifice they ensured that their children had opportunities to be successful in life.
Bill and Annette moved to Harrison, Michigan in 2009, where they became active members of St Athanasius Church. Bill enjoyed life on the lake – from pulling the grandkids around in tubes with his pontoon boat and unhooking the “big catches” they made off his dock, to floating peacefully in tubes on a warm sunny day with his wife Annette. He loved the time he spent with his grandchildren – watching them play hockey, attending a theater performance or simply eating an ice cream cone after a long day on the lake. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator.
Bill is survived by his wife, Annette; his daughters Amy (Doug Lindsay), Karen Dumas and Heidi (Kareem Davis); his son Matthew; his grandchildren Jack and Ella Dumas, Grant and Brody Lindsay, and Isabel and Sofia Davis; and his siblings Sandy and Robert Kinner. He is preceded in death by his sister, Carole Kinner and his parents.
A memorial gathering will be held at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Harrison, Michigan on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated by Father Marcel Portelli at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held after the mass at St. Athanasius. All are welcome to attend to celebrate Bill’s life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to: St. Athanasius Catholic Church, 310 S Broad Street, Harrison, MI 48625.
