Obituary for Winifred Johnston

Winifred Johnston, 94, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Hospice in Mt. Pleasant.
A private family service was held at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Contributions may be sent to the United Methodist Church in Weidman, MI.
Winifred was born on January 2, 1922, in Elk Rapids, MI, the daughter of Vern and Georgianna (Francisco) VanWie.
Winifred married Myron Johnston, October 12, 1944, in Mt. Pleasant. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the organist for several years. Her favorite music to play was hymns and ragtime. She composed a complete music piece in her early 70’s, we filmed her playing it. Mom and Dad were members of the Clare rock club; she enjoyed crocheting, camping, coloring mandalas, reading biographies of our presidents and of kings and queens. She lived 10 years with her daughter and son-in-law. Friday nights were spent putting together puzzles with her granddaughter, Jennifer. She enjoyed visiting at the homes of her granddaughters.
Winifred is survived by her daughter Judy (John) Slack, 4 granddaughters, Jennifer (Jason) Parker, Julie (Bernard) Giovanelli, Janelle (Scott) Taylor, Megan Johnston, and 6 great-grandchildren, Taylor Parker, Chloe Parker, Alexander Giovanelli, Samuel Giovanelli, Ashley Taylor, and Nicholas Taylor.
Winifred was preceded in death by her husband, Myron Johnston and son Gary Johnston.
