Obituary for Adonna Jean Kennedy

KENNEDY, ADONNA JEAN, age 82, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Mid Michigan Medical Center in Midland.

Funeral Services for Adonna will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Clark Family Funeral Chapel, with Carole Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. A luncheon will be held following graveside services at Reflections Reception Center at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to Adopt Together (a charitable organization assisting with the adoption of her granddaughter, Aura, being adopted from Colombia), Chippewa Watershed Conservancy, or HATS. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Adonna was born September 27, 1935, in Mt. Pleasant, to Emery and Edna (Thomas) Freeman. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School with the class of 1953. Adonna married Richard L. Kennedy on September 5, 1959, in Mt. Pleasant at the First United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on February 3, 2004. Adonna worked in the Field Services Department at CMU prior to having children and raising her family. She loved her flower gardens, feeding birds, watching musicals, and day trips to beautiful Western Michigan. Adonna enjoyed nature walks at the Chippewa Watershed Conservancy, in which she was very active. She had a passion for baking and cooking for her family, and always provided treats for her friends and family at Christmas. Adonna adored her family, and loved their time together at the family cottage at Halls Lake that her father built. She enjoyed watching a good game of bean bags at the lake. Adonna was a member of First United Methodist Church, and was part of the Mary Martha Circle.

Adonna is survived by her children: Kathy (Alan) Johns, Steve (Susan) Kennedy, and Dave (Lalita) Kennedy, all of Mt. Pleasant, Dan (Marla) Kennedy of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; grandchildren, Ashley Jarrett, Ryan Johns, Travis (Katie) Johns, Melissa Tilmann, Joey Kennedy, and her new granddaughter Aura Kennedy that she was so eager to meet in a few short weeks; great-grandchildren Madison, Aiden, Nevaeh, Jeremiah, and Carter; very dear nephew Jim (Peg) Gatrell of Midland; her furry companions Dolly, Cissy, Bean and Little Gray.

Adonna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Emery Freeman, Jr., and sister Dorothy Gatrell.
