Alfred Klumpp, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2006, at his home.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 19, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Beal City with Fr. Thomas McNamara officiating. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Monday, July 17, from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, July 18, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A prayer service will be held Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. and a pilgrim memorial service will be held Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, July 19, from 9:30 until the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Commission on Aging, or Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Alfred was born February 10, 1918, in Alma, MI, the second of thirteen children of Otto and Mabel (MacDonald) Klumpp. He married Ruth Catherine Schafer of Weidman on July 18, 1942, in San Francisco, CA.

Alfred served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS New Mexico during WWII and remained with the Naval Reserve, retiring with 26 years of service as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He worked for Leonard Refineries as a licensed electrician for 23 years and also as Maintenance Supervisor of the County Building for 10 years, retiring in 1982. Alfred was very active in the Moose Lodge, holding various offices, receiving several awards and attained the highest level of recognition – the Pilgrim degree in 1988. He also worked on Isabella County Fair Board for 15 years and wired many of the buildings out at the fairgrounds. He worked with the Commission on Aging’s Golden Key Volunteer Program. He was a member of the local VFW, the Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph the Worker congregation.

Alfred built his last two homes and enjoyed working outside in his “little corner of the world”. He always planted a large garden and shared his produce with family and friends.

Alfred is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth; four daughters, Cheryl (Mike) McCreery of Elwell, Maxine (Mike) Kent, Cindy (Phil) Ludwig, and Donna (Dave) Ahlers, all of Mt. Pleasant; eleven grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher (Emily) McCreery, Carla McCreery, Jeremy Tubbs, Jason (Ashley) Tubbs, Anthony Fox, Angela Fox, Brad Ahlers, Heath Ahlers, Dave Kent, Phillip (Erin) Ludwig, Joshua (Carrie) Ludwig; three great-grandchildren, Gwyneth Tubbs, Maximilian McCreery, and Abigail Ludwig; sisters, Sophie Stowell, Viola (Norm) Schafer, both of Shepherd, Katherine Dickey, Alice Faber and Bonnie Zingery, all of Mt. Pleasant; In-Laws, Renalda Klumpp, Jerry (Bethel) Schafer, Eileen Schafer, Joyce Carter, and Betty Wilson. Alfred is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his only son, Terry Klumpp: one great-granddaughter, Elaina McCreery; his parents; parents-in-laws Tony and Matilda Schafer; four brothers Russell “Charles”, Robert, George and Randall; three sisters, Marjorie Schafer, Helen Scott Arthur, and Dorothy Sprague; In-Laws, Ralph Stowell, Bernie Faber, Kenneth Dickey, Jim Scott, Jerry Sprague, Walt (Wanda) Schafer, Ann (Milo) Eldred, Oscar Schafer, Ed Schafer, and Robert Schafer.
