Obituary for Donald Eugene Shamp
SHAMP, DONALD EUGENE, age 85, of Mt. Pleasant passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at his home surrounded by loved ones and under the care of Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
A Private Celebration of Donald's life will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Great Lakes Caring Hospice. Envelopes will be available at Clark Family Funeral Chapel.
Donald was born on August 29, 1932, in Ionia, the son of Edward and Lena (Dunham) Shamp. He married Shirley Marie (Wood) Elliott on June 30, 1978, in Mt. Pleasant. Donald worked as a plumber and pipefitter for the Local Union #333 for 50 years. During that time, Donald worked on the Alaskan Pipeline. He was the coach of the state champion speed skating team in the 1950's at Midway Roller Rink in Battle Creek. Donald enjoyed boating, skiing, fishing, riding his motorcycle, camping, farming, dancing, and travel. He had traveled to almost every state, only missing Hawaii. Donald loved spending winters in Florida. Nothing was more important to him than his family. Donald loved watching his grandchildren's sporting events, never missing a game. For the last 29 years, the whole family would come home to the "Shamp Swamp" for the 4th of July week, where everyone would wear their Red, White, and Blue.
Donald is survived by his wife of 39 years, Shirley Shamp; children, Donald Shamp, Jr. of DeBary, FL, Richard Shamp of North Carolina, Tammi (Brian) Provine of York, SC, Douglas Shamp of Houston, TX, David (Michelle) Shamp of Houston, TX, Theresa (Ed) Gross, Ronald (Wendy) Elliott, and James (Marie) Elliott, all of Mt. Pleasant; 18 grandchildren, Brandon, Brody, Justin, Ashley, Hunter, Ashley, Bradley, and Bryce Shamp, Ryan, Emily, Dillen, Andrew, Bo, Ava, and Katelyn Elliott, Sarah Gross, Lindsey Provine, and Nicholas Cavazos; sister, Elsie (Shamp) Love of Eaton Rapids; special sister-in-law, Beverly (Dick); brother-in-law, Richard (Carol); and many very special nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lena; brother, Edward; sister, Joyce; sister-in-law, Dixie; and Lois Shamp.
