Eugene Hughes "Gene"  Clifton
CLIFTON, EUGENE “GENE” HUGHES, age 87, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016.

Funeral Services for Gene will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 8, 2016, at Potter’s House with Pastor Ron Ives officiating. Interment will follow in Lincoln Township Cemetery. A luncheon will take place at the church following the committal service. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of Service on Monday, February 8, at Potter’s House. Memorial contributions may be made to Potter’s House. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Eugene was born on October 4, 1928, in Grand Rapids, the son of Arbry Chester and Gertrude Irene (Hughes) Clifton. He served in the United States Army at Fort Huachua Army Base in Cochise, AZ. Gene married Ollie Sue Maguire on February 23, 1952, in Grand Ledge. He owned and operated Gene’s Standard Oil gas station in Mt. Pleasant. After retirement, he worked as a salesman for Hartman’s Motors and Stan’s Auto Sales. Gene enjoyed traveling and woodworking crafts.

Gene is survived by his wife, Ollie Clifton of Mt. Pleasant; children Sherry Clifton of Mt. Pleasant, Mark Clifton of Mt. Pleasant, Linda (John) Martin of Sumner, Debra (Mickey) Turnwald of Shepherd, Mike Clifton of Shepherd, Norma (Ed) Woods of Traverse City and Cindy (Chuck) Loomis of Shepherd; 10 grandchildren, Brian Clifton, Ryan and Derek Wilson, Ben, Kevin and Kyle Turnwald, Kara and Kelsey Kunik, and Tyler and A.J. Loomis; 2 great-grandchildren, Blake and Harper; sister Shirley Behenke of Indianapolis, IN; and sister-in-law Neoma (Bill) Crowner of St. Augustine, FL.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters.
