COWDEN, EVELYN LOUISE, age 85, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Thursday, October 6, 2016, at Maplewood under the care of Great Lakes Hospice.

Funeral Services for Evelyn will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Sunday, October 9, at 1 p.m. Mrs. Jeanne Thrush will officiate. Interment will follow in the Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue the day of the service from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Great Lakes Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Evelyn was born on May 25, 1931, in Rosebush, the daughter of Elwyn and Josephine (Powers) Cluley. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1949. Evelyn married Robert Cowden on July 23, 1949. She worked as a mail clerk for Isabella Bank for 30 years, retiring in 1996. Evelyn attended Shepherd United Methodist Church and was a former bowler at Chippewa Lanes. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and going to her grandchildren's sporting events. Evelyn also liked to play dominos and card games.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Garry (Rose) Cowden of Shepherd, Nancy (John) Benaske of Rosebush, Byron Cowden of Shepherd, and Laura (Ron) Eggeman of Elkhart, IN; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Beatrice (Ralph) Claybaugh of Mt. Pleasant, Lois (Bob) Benaske of Rosebush, and Joleen (Randy) Owen of Mt. Pleasant.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1994; daughter, Rita in 1971; sister Jane Ouderkirk in 2012; and two brothers Elwin Cluley Jr. and Wallace Cluley.
