Obituary for Fidelis Marie Walmsley

Fidelis Marie Walmsley passed on peacefully at her home Tuesday, March 27, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. She lived 89 love-filled years.

Fidelis was born on September 19, 1928, in Bay City, the daughter of Francis B. and Lillian M. (O'Neill) Hagens. She attended St. John’s School in Essexville and Central High School in Bay City. She married Donald H. Walmsley on December 9, 1950 in Bay City. Fidelis was a Secretary for: Lewis Manufacturing (Liberty Homes) in Bay City, Saginaw Board of Education, Saginaw Commission on Aging and Mt. Pleasant Commission on Aging.

As a social activist, Fidelis spoke out against poverty, injustice and racism, making a positive change in society, and touching the lives of so many.

Fidelis loved music and had a song for everything. She loved to dance - especially to Bob Segar’s “Old Time Rock n Roll”. She loved family trips to Black Lake, entertaining, fashion, redecorating, and helping those in need. But most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Fidelis was deeply loved and will be forever missed by her children: Charles Walmsley of Weidman, Jennifer (Minard) Shattuck of Mt. Pleasant, and Nadine Walmsley (Douglas Foster II) of Hermosa Beach, CA; grandchildren Edward (Keturah) Walmsley and Natalie Shattuck both of Mt. Pleasant; brothers James (Lynette) Hagens of Midland, William (Noel) Hagens of Tacoma, WA; sister Patricia (Daniel) Dettmer of Linwood and many nieces and nephews to which she was very close.

Fidelis was preceded in death by her parents Francis and Lillian Hagens, Donald Walmsley, sister Joanne (Jack) DeCorte, her special cousins John G. “Jackie” Young, Mary C. (Young) Wackerly and Grace (Young) DeCorte, and beloved pooch Tiger.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 302 South Kinney in Mt. Pleasant, Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Loren Kalinowski officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow at Sacred Heart Parish Hall. The Celebration of her Life will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel, 114 South Bradley Street in Mt. Pleasant, Monday, April 2, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with a special tribute at 7:30 p.m.
