Georgia Allene  Gunning (Green)
Georgia A. Gunning, age 87, of Mt. Pleasant passed away peacefully on Monday, December 21, 2015 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

Georgia was born July 31, 1928 in Bethel Township, Branch Co., Michigan to George and Gula (Shippy) Green. She graduated in 1945 from Bronson High School and received Bachelor of Arts in Education and Master of Arts degrees from Western Michigan University. Georgia began her career teaching in a one room schoolhouse and continued as an elementary teacher in Coldwater and Clarkston school districts.

Georgia married Benjamin Nelson Gunning on December 23, 1957 in Coldwater, Michigan. She loved to travel, play golf, and garden. She was also a loyal Michigan State University, Red Wings, and Tigers fan, and believed that all referees had a vendetta against her team.

Georgia is survived by three children, Marlee (Tom) Sukany of North Street, Benjamin G. (Kathy) Gunning of Mt. Pleasant, and Marda Gunning and husband Robert Uva of Bluffton, South Carolina; one granddaughter, Emily Gunning of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Barbara Anglin of Bronson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin N. Gunning; parents; three brothers, Walter, Wendell, and Paul Green; three sisters, Gene Widener, Marilyn Green, and Sally Montanbault.

An Intimate family gathering celebrating Georgia's life will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the Renucci House, Spectrum Health Foundation MV004, Helen Devos Children's Hospital Foundation, 100 Michigan St., NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503.
