MARTIN, GLADYS ELAINE, age 92, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Isabella County Medical Care Facility.
A Funeral Mass for Gladys will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Loren Kalinowski and Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. Rite of Committal will follow in Calvary Cemetery. A luncheon will be held following the Committal Service at Sacred Heart Parish Hall. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14 at Clark Family Funeral Chapel with a Prayer Service that evening at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue the day of Service from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Isabella County Commission on Aging or Sacred Heart Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church.
Gladys was born April 2, 1924 in Isabella County, the daughter of Purl and Elsie (Teachworth) Smith. She married Howard Martin on October 8, 1949, and he preceded her in death November 26, 2006. Gladys loved to dine out, travel, crochet, bird watch, and was a great cook for many. She always enjoyed playing bingo and cards, and was an avid gardener. Gladys was a member of Sacred Heart Parish for many years. She worked for Ferro Manufacturing and Mt. Pleasant Regional Center
Gladys is survived by her children Kenneth (Sandy) Slater of Lapeer, Antoinette TenBrink of Mt. Clemens, and Rose Ann (Chris) Beebe of Shepherd; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister in law Donna Smith of Charlotte; brother in law Bill Martin of Beal City. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Gladys always had a special place in her heart for her niece Mary Anna.
Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, husband Howard, son in law Steve TenBrink, brother Kenneth Smith, and two sisters Helen Cove and Alice Beltinck.
