Obituary for Harry John Martin

Harry John  Martin
MARTIN, HARRY JOHN, 75, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2015, at MidMichigan Medical Center-Gratiot.

A Funeral Mass for Harry will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Loren Kalinowski officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Following the Rite of Committal, a luncheon will be held at the Reflections Reception Center. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, September 21, at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. There will be a Vigil for Harry at 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral chapel. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the time of Service on Tuesday, September 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at Clark Family Funeral Chapel and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Harry was born on July 5, 1940, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Wilfred and Louella (Zeien) Martin. He graduated in the Class of 1958 from Sacred Heart Academy. Harry married Rose Elizabeth Schafer on May 12, 1962, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church. Harry retired in 1995 after working for 30 years at Dow Chemical Co. as a journeyman pipefitter. He also was a caretaker for St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Winn as well as delivered Meals on Wheels for the Commission on Aging for 15 years. Harry was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed restoring antique John Deere tractors with his sons. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. His faith, family, and granddaughter Lindsay were the most important part of his life.

Harry is survived by his wife, Rose Elizabeth Martin of Mt. Pleasant; sons Donald (Amy) Martin and Daniel (Maureen) Martin, both of Shepherd; granddaughter Lindsay; and sister Ruth Ann Meyer of Shepherd.

Harry was preceded in death by his daughter Deborah Martin in 1971 and his parents.
