Obituary for Helen Luella Martin

MARTIN, HELEN LUELLA, age 94, of Beal City, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at McLaren Central Michigan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church in Beal City with Father Tom Held officiating. Rite of Committal will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery. A luncheon will be held following burial at Weidman Community Hall. The family will receive friends at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday beginning at 9 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Isabella Commission on Aging. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Helen was born on September 22, 1923, in Isabella County, the daughter of Elmer and Ethel Rose (Courser) Garrett. She graduated from Beal City High School with the class of 1941. Helen married Kenneth L. Martin on November 12, 1955. He preceded her in death on September 8, 2000. Helen worked as a housekeeper for the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center for 10 years. She was a member of St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church, and also a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #4106. Helen enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and reading. She and Ken loved flea markets, and Helen always took care of her chickens.

Helen is survived by her 3 children; Sharon (Terry) Mullin of Mt. Pleasant, Stephen (Joetta) Thren of Hartford, KY, Stanley Thren of Lake Isabella; 9 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 2 great great granddaughters; a great great grandson; brothers Clayton (Carol) Garrett of Mt. Pleasant, and Charles (Mina) Garrett of Weidman; sister-in-law Neva Jean Cole of Weidman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth, daughter Sharlene Thren , brothers Ernest and Edward Garrett; and sister-in-law June Garrett.
