Obituary for Herta Victoria Murrell (Homi)

MURRELL, HERTA, born in Vienna, Austria, 98 years ago, died February 28, at Green Acres surrounded by people she loved. She is survived by daughters, Edie (Bruce) Allen and Sylvia (Ron) Presswood; four grandchildren and their spouses; and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas.

Born shortly after WW1, she lived an amazing life filled with unbelievable modern inventions, from the widespread use of cars to driverless cars, from vacuum tube radios to the computer age. She endured the tragedies of war and the joy of surviving and making a new life in the US.

She never forgot her love of Vienna and returned often to see friends and family and her beloved Vienna Philharmonic, Opera and Theater. Her job at the University of Illinois, German Dept. fit her skills perfectly. After retirement, she moved to Mt. Pleasant and enjoyed being closer to grandchildren. She managed to live on her own with a loved pet at her side until she was 97.

Her last year was spent at Green Acres, where the staff made her feel loved and respected. The family wishes to thank them for all they do. She will be laid to rest at a private family graveside service.

Anyone wishing to make a memorial gift is asked to contribute to the Humane Animal Treatment Society (HATS) of Isabella County.
