Obituary for Irene Marie Hackett (Niswonger)

HACKETT, IRENE MARIE, 90 years, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, July 4, 2016, at the Woodland Hospice House.

A Funeral Mass for Irene will be held at 1 p.m., on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Shepherd, with Fr. Fred Kawka officiating. A luncheon will follow the Funeral Mass in the Parish Hall. Rite of Committal will take place in St. Leo’s Cemetery in Winn, following the Luncheon. The family will receive friends at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with a VFW Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church the day of the service from 12 noon until the time of the Funeral Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice or VFW Post 3033. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church.

Irene was born on March 13, 1926, in Flint, the daughter of Walter and Stella (Ludwig) Niswonger. She married Joseph Hackett on June 12, 1948. Irene had worked for Ace Hardware, the Yankee Store and the Mt. Pleasant State Home. After her retirement, Irene began clowning and brought joy and laughter to others through her clowning antics. She learned to tap dance and stayed active doing water aerobics, golfing, bowling, and painting and was an accomplished seamstress. Irene was a good squirrel snipper. She was a member of the VFW and the Moose Lodge.

Irene is survived by her children, Pat (Ron) Hoffman of Mt. Pleasant, June (Ernie) Mogg of Rosebush, and Walter (Lori) Hackett of Shepherd; grandchildren, Tracy and Dennis Clare, Mike and Shelly Reihl, Scott and Quana Hoffman, Jeri Hansen (Tom Burns), Tonia and Jeremy Morse, Heather Woodard (Bill Weed), Jason and Brandy Armstrong, Chad (Lindsey West) Mogg, Kurt and Abbie Mogg, Nicotte and Kevin Blain, Michael and Wendy Hackett, Ryan (Janet Koch) Hackett, and Autumn (Joe Vingeau) Hackett; 25 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Hackett; her son, Joseph Hackett; daughter-in-law, Patty Hackett; her parents; and siblings, Dorothy Hackett and Paul Niswonger.
