Jack William Long, age 76, of Mount Pleasant passed away Monday, January 4, 2016, at McLaren Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant.
A Memorial Visitation for Jack will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016, from 4-8 p.m. at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Pleasant Oilers Athletic Boosters. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Jack was born on June 11, 1939, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Jack and Vernice Kathleen (Schultz) Long. He married Markeita Young on July 11, 1981, in Chelsea, Michigan. Jack was President of the family-owned business Long & Wetzel Co. for 45 years. He was a member of the Michigan Oil and Gas Association, Mt. Pleasant Youth Boys Baseball, and Mt. Pleasant High School Athletics. He was a past Boy Scout Leader and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Jaycees. Jack was also a volunteer for the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, serving as past Captain. He was fundamental in organizing and operating the summer youth baseball program. He umpired many high school baseball games. Jack loved spending time with his family, umpiring, and coaching.
Jack is survived by his wife Markeita Long of Mt. Pleasant; nine children Christopher and Carol Long of Mt. Pleasant, Julie Long of Lansing, James Long of Mt. Pleasant, Jennifer and Renaud Long-Huettig of Mt. Pleasant, Veronica and Terry Ellenwood of Lake, Susan and Jeffrey Anderson of Muskegon, Renee and Brian Dault of Ithaca, Mark Long of St. Cloud, MN, Timothy and Nikki Long of Rosenberg, TX; fifteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers David and Bridget Long of Mt. Pleasant, Robert and Jeannie Long of Mt. Pleasant; seven sisters Sandra and Robert Kullman of Mt. Pleasant, Sharon Pickens of Mt. Pleasant, Susan and Ron Langworthy of Cheboygan, Patricia Long of Mt. Pleasant, Pamela and Glen William of Mt. Pleasant, Nancy and Joseph Lauer of Mt. Pleasant, and Kathy and Brian Tressel of Mt. Pleasant. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother James Isaac Long.
