James Robert “Red” MacLean, age 89, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Friday, January 8, 2016, at McLaren Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant.

Funeral Services for Red will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. A luncheon will follow Graveside Services in the Reflections Reception Center. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 11, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Red was born on June 11, 1926, in Grand Rapids, the son of Earl Robert and Velma Marion (Hill) MacLean. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School with the Class of 1944. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1947. Red was an insurance agent in Mt. Pleasant for over 50 years. After having owned the MacLean Insurance Agency, he merged with and retired from The General Agency. He married Ardith Ann (MacMillan) on June 2, 1978, in Port Huron. Red was an avid fan of CMU sports, and was the first president of The Century Club. He was past president for many organizations including Mt Pleasant Jaycees, Civitan, and Lions Club of Weidman and Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of the Weidman Faith United Methodist Church.

Red is survived by wife Ardie MacLean of Mt. Pleasant, children Jim (Diane) MacLean of Mt. Pleasant, John MacLean of Mt. Pleasant, Jacqui (Guy) Cantu of San Antonio, TX; step-children Christine (Bob) Nace of Manassas, VA, Robert (Rene) Gilray of Mt. Pleasant, Steve (Debbie) Gilray of Mt. Pleasant, Lori (Craig) Schumacher of Marquette, and Becky Gilray of Boulder, CO; son-in-law Dennis West of Mt. Pleasant, sisters-in-law Janet Wilson of Mt. Pleasant, Mary (Ed) Leonard of Manistique, and Nancy (John) Kinzel of Kansas; 16 grandchildren Kris Wells, Jimmy MacLean, Jason MacLean, Jason (Kacie) Smith, Jennifer West, Marie (Steve) Rawson, Lindsay West, Deana (Marc) Kotenko, Eddie Cantu, Leanne (Scott) Fischer, Amy (Gordie) Shindorf-Risbridger, Jeannette (Mike) Byrns, Ryan Gilray, Randy Gilray, Hilary (Bob) Elmore, Shane (Monica) Egbert, Brigid Goggin; and 17 great grandchildren.

Red was preceded in death by his parents, step-parents Stanley Britton and Geraldine MacLean, daughter Judi West, and his children's mother Billie MacLean.
