John Frederick "Jeff" Hafer
HAFER, JOHN "JEFF" FREDERICK, age 66, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw following a brief illness. Jeff was surrounded by his wife of 40 years, Chris, and their sons, Joseph and Jeffrey. The family would like to thank the staff at Covenant Hospital, especially Dr. Frank Schinco, for their care during Jeff's stay.

A Memorial Service for Jeff will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, November 29, at 11 a.m. with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. A Luncheon will immediately follow at Mt. Town Station. The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel on Monday, November 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue the day of the service from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Stroke Association or Covenant HealthCare Foundation to the Neuro/Trauma ICU. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Jeff was born on February 10, 1950, to John and Mary (Heinlein) Hafer in Mt. Pleasant. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in the Class of 1968. He attended Northwood University. Jeff proudly served his country in the United States Navy and worked in the family hardware until 1984, when it was sold. He continued to work in retail for the remainder of his life and retired from Menard's in March of 2016. Jeff loved music and like his dad, sons, and many nephews, played the drums for many years. He enjoyed golf, watching any kind of sports, but in particular, was a fan of the Detroit Tigers. One of Jeff's great pleasures was taking care of his beautiful lawn. His love of his flowers was evident in his lovely landscaping and flowerbeds. Jeff and Chris enjoyed camping with close friends from around the state and the annual July camping trip was a highlight of the summer. Jeff had a wonderful sense of humor and created laughter everywhere he went. He attracted friends with similar wit and family gatherings were filled with laughter and great memories. Jeff was just a genuinely nice person to be around.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Christine M.; sons, Joseph and Jeffrey; sisters, Mary (Jerry Card) Hafer and Molly (Cornell) LaLone, both of Mt. Pleasant; brothers-in-law, Tom (Carol) Smith of Hermosa, CA and Tim (Donna) Smith of Ann Arbor; sister-in-law, Nancy (Gary) Rubinson of Palm Harbor, FL; 7 nieces and nephews; 13 great-nieces and nephews; several cousins; and many lifelong friends.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents and mother and father-in-law, Tom and Mary Lou Smith of West Branch, MI.
