COURTNEY, KENNETH ALVIN, age 84, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at the Woodland Hospice House.

Funeral Services for Kenneth will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Monday, August 8, 2016, at 11 a.m. with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A Luncheon will be held back at the Reflections Reception Center following the Committal Service. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue the day of the service from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Kenneth was born on May 5, 1932, in Greendale Township, the son of Orah and Anna (Benzinger) Courtney. He married Phyllis Harry on June 21, 1952 in Shepherd. Kenneth worked for Fortino Foods for 15 years before becoming a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Mt. Pleasant, working 39 years before retiring. Following his retirement, Kenneth transferred automobiles for the Auto Group in Mt. Pleasant. He enjoyed car racing, listening to old country music, going to the casino, and being a Bingo caller.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis; children, Vicki (Jim) Henry of Washington, MI, Clay (Alma) Courtney of Belding, and Dana Courtney of Mt. Pleasant; daughter-in-law, Diane Courtney-Johnson of Mt. Pleasant; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy (Gerald) Gimmey of Shepherd.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his son, Troy Courtney; 2 great-granddaughters; parents; and sister, Karen Courtney.
