Life Story for Larry Roger Anderson

LARRY ROGER ANDERSON, age 80, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Woodland Hospice.

Funeral Services for Larry will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, at the Rosebush United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Beavan officiating. Interment will take place in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A luncheon will follow interment at the Reflections Reception Center. The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. on Monday, September 18, at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the time of Service on Tuesday, September 19, at the Rosebush United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Isabella County Fair Board, Rosebush United Methodist Church, or Woodland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church.

Larry was born August 5, 1937, to Harold and Eva Joy (McFarland) Anderson in Rosebush, MI. He graduated in the Class of 1956 from Mt. Pleasant High School and in 1958 from Michigan State University in the agricultural program. Larry served in the U.S. Army Special Forces as a Green Beret paratrooper. He married Donna Cameron on October 27, 1962, at the Rosebush United Methodist Church. Larry was self-employed as a farmer and was awarded Michigan Farmer of the Year. He was a member of the Isabella County Farm Bureau and the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. He also worked sales for Farmers Petroleum, Michigan Pipe, and Mears Engineering. He was a member of the Rosebush United Methodist Church and served on various boards and countless committees, fundraising, and community projects through the years and participated in mission trips state, county, and worldwide. Larry was selfless and always giving of his time for the benefit of others through community activities. Making others feel needed and important was a special gift he recognized and together with his wife, Donna, they worked as a team to help numerous organizations. He, along with Donna, was a supporter of the Rosebush 4th of July Celebration and were honored to be named Grand Marshalls in 2006. They were Jaycees/Junior Achievement Representatives and involved with Habitat for Humanity and Isabella County REAP, to name a few. Both were facilitators of the development of Rosebush Manor Assisted Living, with Larry serving as President. Larry was involved in the Isabella County 4-H, having served as a leader, superintendent, past Fair Board President, and was instrumental in building the current fairgrounds. He was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 2017. Larry was a volunteer for the Isabella Northeast Fire Department and also was a past member of the Wise Township Board of Review. No matter how busy volunteering, Larry was devoted to his children and grandchildren attending countless sporting and other activities and instilling in them a sense of responsibility.

Larry is survived by his wife Donna Anderson of Mt. Pleasant; his daughters Annette (Scott) Karkau of Mason, Kara (Ed) Lynch of Mt. Pleasant, and Kristi Pifer of Mt. Pleasant; 10 grandchildren Alexia, Dexter, Cameron and Eva Lynch, Katelynn and Anderson Karkau, Seth, Riley, Wesley and Ty Pifer; brother Wayne (Judy) Anderson of Sanford; and sister Linda Anderson of Murfreesboro, TN; mother-in-law Erma Cameron of Mt. Pleasant, and in-laws Melvin (Barb) Cameron, Richard (Linda) Cameron, and Beverly Pung. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law George Pifer; sister Susan Halsey; and brother-in-law William Pung.
