Obituary for Laura Lou Nitschke

NITSCHKE, LAURA LOU, age 81, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Medilodge in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral Services for Laura will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Clark Family Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Daryl Amrozowicz officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow in Reflections Reception Center. Interment will take place on Monday, June 4, at Floral Gardens Cemetery in Bay City. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Laura was born June 17, 1936, Bay City, to James Milton and Almira Izeta (Haley) Debats. She graduated from Bay City High School with the class of 1954. Laura married Earl R. Nitschke on August 7, 1954, in Bay City. She worked for Central Michigan University's Telecom Department. Laura was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was also active in the Child Study Club, and the GFWC Women's Club. Laura loved to travel the state of Michigan watching her granddaughter in figure skating competitions, attending grandson's football games, and spending time with her grandkids.

Laura is survived by her husband Earl Nitschke of Mt. Pleasant; sons Kurt R. (Deborah) Nitschke of Midland and Karl D. (Sandy) Nitschke of Mt. Pleasant; 3 grandchildren Darlene Tueck of Coleman, Kurt R. (Cheryl) Nitschke of Lombard, IL, Sara Nitschke of Shepherd; and a brother Kenneth "Ducky" Debats of Bay City.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents; brother Douglas Debats; brother and sister-in-law Jim (Joan) Debats; and sister-in-law Nancy Debats.
