Obituary for Lillian Caroline Gostola

Lillian Gostola lived a long, wonderful life. She recently celebrated her 93rd birthday which was a magnificent accomplishment! Born and raised here in Mt Pleasant, Lillian grew up on her family farm. She was blessed with a happy childhood; many days spent with her brother Harold riding horses, taking care of the farm animals, fishing in their small creek for trout and attending church every Sunday with her family. Lillian attended Weidman High School and at age 17 earned the award of Valedictorian of her class.

Soon after graduation in 1942, she began her lifelong career at the Isabella Bank in downtown Mt Pleasant. For 45 years she was dedicated and loyal to her job. The best part, she said, was all the wonderful people she worked with; many became lifelong friends. On November 22, 1945 Lillian married her husband, Joseph, and they soon became the proud parents of three children.

Lillian loved the simple joys of life. She loved music especially playing the piano and summer was her favorite time of the year. Every spring she planted a flower garden; we remember the beautiful bouquets she would cut and bring into our home. She loved all animals and gave to many charity groups.

Our mother believed strongly in our Lord Jesus Christ and always put other people first before herself. Many people knew her for her gentle, loving and kind soul; she never expressed a harsh word to anyone. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and positive outlook on life! The family feels very blessed that Lillian was a part of their lives for so long; she will be missed every day!

Lillian is survived by: her husband Joseph of 73 years of marriage; daughter Bonne (Jerry) Loucks, son Michael (Patty) Gostola, and daughter Dixie Gostola; four treasured grandchildren, Kathy (Steve) Dalessandro, Kevin Loucks (Holly Jenks), Paul Gostola (deceased), and Joe (Candy) Gostola; and four great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 21 from 10:00am-11:00am at Zion Lutheran Church, 2175 S.Coldwater Rd, Mt Pleasant. Mass will immediately follow at 11:00am. The family wants to thank all of the staff at Medilodge of Mt Pleasant and Heartland Hospice for their kind, compassionate, and loving care of our mother. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Medilodge of Mt Pleasant.
