COURTER, MARILYN LOU, age 86, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015, at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

Funeral Services for Marilyn will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastors Dana Hendershot and Ronald Vredeveld officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday, December 31, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Isabella County Commission on Aging. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church.

Marilyn was born on December 6, 1929, in Grand Rapids, MI, the daughter of Harold and Helen (Egbert) Hill. The family moved to Trufant, MI where Marilyn grew up and attended and graduated from Lakeview Public Schools. Marilyn was employed for a number of years by the Gibson Refrigerator Company in Greenville. In 1949 Marilyn married Gaylord Courter, their union lasting for 66 years. During their marriage they lived for a number of years in Ionia, MI and in 1956 moved to Mt. Pleasant with their two children, Gregory and Teresa “Teri”. After several years residing in Mt. Pleasant, Marilyn was asked to join the City of Mt. Pleasant Treasurer’s Office where she retired after 20 years of employment.

Marilyn was a founding and dedicated member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where she taught not only Sunday school but also day school in the church’s early years. For 29 years she shared “God’s love with people who had cognitive impairments” in Mt. Pleasant through the Association for Interfaith Ministries. She donated 106 units of blood to the American Red Cross as well as being active in the local Red Cross Chapter. Among her many other activities, she enjoyed memberships in the Zeta Tau Alpha Society, Mt. Pleasant Tourist Club, Women’s City Club, founding co-chair of Christmas Outreach, the Isabella County Commission on Aging as well as many other organizations.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband Gaylord of Mt. Pleasant; children Gregory (Kay) Courter of Battle Creek and Teresa (Tim) Coscarelly of Mt. Pleasant; and grandchildren Stephanie Coscarelly, Nicholas Coscarelly, both of Mt. Pleasant, Tracey (Rob) Burdick of Lansing and Kelly Eis of Battle Creek.

Marilyn was was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
