Obituary for Maureen Elizabeth Currie (Cullum)

Maureen Elizabeth Currie (Cullum)
CURRIE, MAUREEN ELIZABETH, age 79, of Weidman, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away Monday, March 26, 2018, at the Woodland Hospice in Mt. Pleasant.

Maureen was born on March 12, 1939, in Toronto, Canada, the daughter of Harry and Gladys (Hill) Cullum. She married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Currie on January 24, 1958, in Toronto. Maureen and Ken moved to the United States in 1968 where she worked as the Princicpal's Secretary of Avondale High School in Auburn Hills. In 1987 Maureen and Ken moved to Weidman where she was hired as the Principal's Secretary at Beal City High School until she retired. After retirement, Maureen was a substitute teacher's aide in Beal City. To know Maureen, was to know a loving compassionate woman who loved children and followed the lives of the kids she met at school into their adult lives. She followed the "Aggies" sport teams and was a fixture at most football games. Ken and Maureen were very active in life. Skiing in Quebec and western Canada in the winter, golfing in the summer, and vacationing in the Caribbean. She was active at the Weidman United Methodist church, Life Choices Pregnancy Center, and the Red Hatters. Maureen loved to knit and if you knew her you probably have a hand-made hat or two.

Maureen is survived by her husband, Kenneth Currie; children, Deborah (Mike) Pasche of Mt. Pleasant, Susan (Eric) Pudlo or Ortonville, and Michael (Lori) Currie of Auburn Hills; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Catherine Rever of Cornwall, ON, and Frances (Dennis) Medland of Peterborough, ON.

Maureen was preceded in death by her son, Ken Currie, Jr., in 2001, and her parents.

Funeral Services for Maureen will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Thursday, March 29, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Scott Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. A Luncheon will be held at the Weidman Eagle's following the Committal Service.
