Obituary for Nannette Elizabeth Callender (Riess)

Nannette Elizabeth Callender, 96, of Mount Pleasant passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Woodland Hospice in Mt. Pleasant.

There will be no funeral services held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Isabella County Commission on Aging or Woodland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at Clark Family Funeral Chapel & Cremation Service.

Nannette was born on January 10th, 1920 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the daughter of Frank and Marcella (Hilberts) Riess. At an early age, her family moved to and built a home in Rosedale Park in Detroit, Michigan. Nan attended Cooke School and Cooley High School. She also attended and graduated from Rochester Institute in New York. After college, Nan worked at J.L. Hudson downtown where she met and married Jack Callender. Nan and Jack also chose Rosedale Park to live. They had three children Tim, Bruce, and Nancy. Nan did many activities in the park, women’s club, prayer group, was a scout mother and a Sunday school teacher. In the late 60's, the Callenders moved to Birmingham, Michigan. Nan worked at Saks Fifth Avenue at Somerset Mall for 18 years. After Jack died, Nan moved to Boyne City to be by her daughter Nancy. Her next move was to Mt. Pleasant, where Nan and Nancy shared a home.

Nan is survived by son Bruce (Neva) Callender of Nevada; daughter Nancy Callender of Mt. Pleasant; grandson Marcus Callender of Texas; grandson Stephen (Maggie) Callender of Ohio; great-grandson Charlie; and many cousins, sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews. Nan is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Marcella Riess; husband Jack E. Callender; brothers Robert C. Riess, Frank Arden Riess; and son Timothy A. Callender.
