Obituary for Noel Eugene "Gene" Beavers

Noel "Gene" Beavers, age 81, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015, at MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland. Funeral Services for Gene will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Monday, October 19, 2015, at 11 a.m. with Minister Phil Beavers officiating. Interment will take place at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A Luncheon will be held at the First Church of Christ following the committal service. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 17, from 4 to 8 p.m., and on Sunday, October 18, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Great Lakes Christian College. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Gene was born on April 13th, 1934, in Elkville, IL the son of Noah and Ella (Castleton) Beavers. Gene graduated from Elkville High School in 1952, and Lincoln Bible Institute in Lincoln, IL in 1958. He married Gayleen Holton on November 6, 1954 in Clinton, Iowa. Gene was the current minister at Westlawn Church of Christ in Shepherd for the past 13 years. He served in many churches in the past 61 years including Bismarck, IL, Algonac, MI, and Kalamazoo, MI. Gene enjoyed gardening and farming; loved to travel, play the fiddle, and collect antiques. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, and was part of the Broken Glass String Band.

Gene is survived by his wife, Gayleen Beavers of Mt. Pleasant, MI; son, Phil and Judy Beavers of Dewitt, MI; daughter, Janice Beavers of Madison Heights, MI; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Heckman of Elkville, IL.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Susan Gilpin in 2005; brother, Ardele Beavers; and sister, Allene Loyd.
