PETER JOSEPH McCANN, age 84, of Clare passed away with his family by his side on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

A Funeral Mass for Peter will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 11, 2017, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Nwokoye officiating. Rite of Committal will be held in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, September 10, at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. There will be a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral chapel. Visitation will continue on the day of the service from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Academy Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church.

Peter was born on January 7, 1933, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Aloysius Arthur and Eleanor Margaret (Marthey) McCann. He served in the United States Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict and the U.S. Navy Reserves for 26 years. Peter last worked for Mears Engineering in purchasing and receiving. Previously he had worked as a certified master mechanic for Olson Tire and Lee Implement. Peter was a member of St. Cecilia’s in Clare and previously St. Henry’s in Rosebush. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Peter enjoyed many years of service as a front desk volunteer and was known as “Popcorn Pete” at Central Michigan Community Hospital. He liked working in his garden, especially growing tomatoes and giving them away to friends and family, and had a great love for fishing.

Peter is survived by his children, Michael (Lucille) McCann of Rosebush; Kevin McCann of Mt. Pleasant; Patrick (Elizabeth) McCann of Mt. Pleasant, Jan Marie (Billy) Raies of Midland, TX, and Christopher (Connie) McCann of Mt. Pleasant; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother William McCann of Ottawa Lake and sister Mary Jo “JoJo” McCann of Grand Ledge.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents; son Peter McCann; brother Thomas McCann and sister Patricia Zwicker.
