Phillip Donald Schafer, 47, of Shepherd passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2006 at his home.

A Funeral Mass for Phill will be held on Monday, July 17, at 11 a.m. from Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 16, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. A prayer service will be held on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Cancer Services, Pardee Cancer Fund, Hospice of Central Michigan or the Family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church.

Phill was born on December 16, 1958 in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Robert and Joyce (Funnell) Schafer. He graduated from Beal City High School in 1977. Phill married Deborah Phelps on July 29, 1977 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He worked for Halliburton for 20 years and spent the last 7 years working for Landmark Services. Phill was a member of the Operating Engineer Union Local 324. He enjoyed hunting, his house plants, woodworking, spending time with his wife and kids, music, eating and working in his yard.

Phill is survived by his wife, Deborah; children, Autumn Schafer (Mark McCartney) of Alexandria, IN, Phillip Schafer (Nina Norton) of Alma and Justin Schafer (Heather Gill) of Ypsilanti; mother, Joyce (Rudy) Carter of Mt. Pleasant; Father-in-law, Stanley (Shirley) Phelps of Mt. Pleasant; brothers, Dave (Patti) Schafer of Beal City, Steve (Marilyn) Schafer of Weidman, Mike (Charlene) Schafer of Beal City, Ron (Ann) Schafer of Lake and Marty (Ann) Schafer of Beal City; sisters, Charlotte (Mike) Lane of Lockport, IL and Sue (John) Rexford of Beal City; in-laws, Deanna (Tom) Curtiss of Mt. Pleasant, Don (Tina) Phelps of Mt. Pleasant and David (Rhonda) Phelps of Pigeon and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, close friends and relatives.

Phill was preceded in death by his father on May 25, 1993.
