Richard Homer "Dick"  Day
Richard “Dick” Homer Day 85 of Lake George, Michigan passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 28, 2018. Richard was born June 16, 1933 in Mayville, Michigan, the son of Homer Frank Day and Esther Theodora (Haas) Day. Dick graduated from Flint Central High School, class of 1951. Immediately following his high school graduation, Mr. Day enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict. After fulfilling his commitment to his country, Richard attended University of Michigan and earned his Master’s Degree.
Mr. Day had resided in Lake George since 1985, coming from Flushing, Michigan. Dick retired from General Motors Corporation Chevrolet Division Plant 10 Flint, Michigan, after fifty years of dedicated service. On February 2, 2001 in Harrison, Mr. Day was united in marriage to the former Debra Lyn Ostrander. Mr. Day was a member of the American Legion Post 404, Harrison, a past member of the Clare Moose Family Center, Clare, Michigan and a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club #3977, Clare. Richard was passionate about oil painting, loving and spoiling his grandchildren. As a young man, Dick enjoyed boxing and training young men the art of boxing at Flint City.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of seventeen years, Mrs. Debra L. Day of Lake George, four daughters; Lois, Lynnette Day of Pellston, Michigan, Peggy Olea and husband Don of Tennessee and Renae Parish and husband LeeRoy of Clare, three sons; Mark Day of Caseville, Michigan, Joseph Sims and wife Theresa of Chase, Michigan and Robert Smith Jr. and Renee’ Eastman of Corinth, New York, twenty two grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one brother, Damon Day of Costa Mesa, California, many extended family members and his two beloved dogs; Toby and Jupiter. Mr. Day was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Renee’ Day, one son, Lyle Day, three dogs; Rags, Rocky and Beanie and one cat, Bootsie.
Celebration of Life services honoring Mr. Day will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. from Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison with Pastor Connie Bongard officiating. Family and friends are encouraged to gather on Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. until time of service for reminiscing and sharing of memories.
