Robert Howard "Bob"  Leathers
Robert “Bob” Howard Leathers Jr. 80 of Harrison, passed away at MidMichigan Health-Midland. Robert was born November 15, 1937 in Lansing, Michigan the son of Robert Howard Leathers Sr. and Golden Ida VanWormer. Bob graduated from Eastern High School, Lansing, Michigan. On June 28, 1958 in Lansing, Robert was united in marriage to his sweetheart and best friend, Ms. Marilyn Kay Robbins.
Mr. Leathers has resided in rural Harrison since 1999, coming from DeWitt, Michigan. Bob retired from General Motors Corporation of Lansing after twenty-eight years of dedicated service. Prior to working at General Motors, Bob spent fourteen years at Demmer Tool and Die of Lansing and also worked a few years at his father’s business, Lansing Tool and Die. During his free time, Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, making cherished pieces of jewelry for his family, watching televised sporting events and in recent years, having fun beside his wife at the casino. Mr. Leathers spent seventeen years wintering in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Surviving Bob is his wife of fifty-nine years, Mrs. Marilyn Kay Leathers of Harrison, two loving sons; Brian Leathers and wife Janice of New Canton, Virginia and Brett Leathers of Highland Illinois, four grandchildren; Chrystal Shumaker and husband Joseph Shumaker III of Lansing, Jessica Leathers of Highland, Illinois, Nicole Beeby and husband Scott of Waynesboro, Virginia and Brittany Leathers of Highland, Illinois, one great-grandson, Joseph Shumker IV, two sisters; Donna J. Jolly of West Olive, Michigan, and Fairala Lewis and husband Robert of Lansing, two brothers in law; Charles Robbins of Houghton Lake, Michigan and Rex Robbins and wife Lynn of Prudenville, Michigan, many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. Leathers was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Robert Howard Leathers III, one daughter in law, Diane D. Leathers and one brother in law, Lawrence Jolly.
A Memorial Gathering and Luncheon honoring Mr. Leathers will be held Tuesday, January 16, 2018 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Harrison Senior Palace, 212 South Broad Street, Harrison. Memorial gifts in memory or Mr. Leathers may be considered to: Clare County Animal Shelter or American Cancer Society.
