Obituary for Russell Orvin Lemke

Russell Orvin  Lemke
Lemke, Russell Orvin, age 90, of Mt. Pleasant passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 25, 2016, at McLaren Central Michigan.

Funeral Services for Russell will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Thursday, July 28, at 11 a.m. with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. A Luncheon will follow the service in the Reflections Reception Center. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, July 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Moose Heart. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Russell was born on December 23, 1925, in Iron Mountain, MI, the son of August and Olga (Flottum) Lemke. Russell served in the U.S. Army as a Technical Sergeant in the Company C346th Infantry Regiment, 87th Infantry Division from 1944-1946. He was a WWII Veteran and POW. Russell attended Ferris State University under the GI Bill and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce and a Michigan Secondary Provisional Teaching Certificate. He married Joanne Roberts on November 5, 1949 in Reed City, Michigan. Russell was employed as a buyer for Mission Lumber and Supply, retiring on January 1, 2016, after 42 years of service.

Russell was a lifelong member of the Loyal Order of the Moose He was an avid golfer and an accomplished bowler, being inducted into the Bowlers Hall of Fame in 1992. Russell loved all sports, but especially enjoyed watching golf and the Detroit Tigers.

Russell is survived by his children, Kris (Darrell) Taylor of Holt, Cheri (Jeff) Chandler of Grand Rapids, and Steve (Lori) Lemke of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Heather Lemke, Josh Chandler, Brittney Taylor, Tyler Lemke, and Allison Lemke; and 5 great-grandchildren, Jinessa, Amyah, Raine, Arizona, and Brynlee; and sister Ruth Malizia of St. Petersburg, FL.

Russell was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnne Lemke and brother, Norm Lemke.
