Sophie Ann Thomas 103 of Roscommon, Michigan, formerly of Harrison passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at The Brook of Roscommon. Sophie was born October 7, 1913 in Wakefield Township, Michigan the daughter of James and Genny (Wladislawa) Niezgucki. On September 7, 1935 in Highland Park, Michigan, Sophie was united in marriage to Mr. George William Thomas. After fifty-eight years of marriage, Mr. Thomas preceded Sophie in death on November 11, 1994.
Mrs. Thomas had resided in Roscommon since November of 2015, moving from Harrison, where she had resided since 1970, coming from Detroit. Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Harrison Women of the Moose Chapter 1804. Sophie was a past member of Harrison United Brethren Church and Harrison American Legion Post 404 Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Thomas enjoyed floral and vegetable gardening, picking up sticks in her yard, mowing her grass, cheering for her beloved Detroit Tigers, playing bingo and many card games with her family and friends.
Surviving Sophie are her two sons; Dennis Thomas and wife Carol of Mackinaw City, Michigan and Ronald Thomas and wife Diane of Roscommon, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one sister, Marie Kennedy of Shelby Township, Michigan, plus many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and a host of cousins. Mrs. Thomas was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Dorothy and Frances and three brothers; Edward Niezgucki, Henry Niezgucki and Walter Niezgucki.
Funeral services celebrating Mrs. Thomas will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison with Rev. Lee Palmer officiating. Visitation will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Harrison.
