Obituary for Ted J. Griggs

GRIGGS, TED J., age 74, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away October 4, 2017, at Woodland Hospice.

Ted was born October 4, 1943, in Sedalia, MO to Charles H. and LaVera V. (King) Griggs. He graduated from Smith Cotton High School in 1961. For his Master's Degree he studied at University of Central Missouri, and attended St. Paul's Seminary in Kansas City, MO. Ted married Barbara Moore on June 3, 1967 in Sedalia, MO. He and Barb moved to El Dorado Springs, MO in 1972 where he taught high school until 1984 when the family moved to Grand Rapids, MI. There he transitioned into working as a church administrator for Community of Christ Church. They moved to Mt. Pleasant, MI in 1990 and he retired there in 2009. Ted authored worship and Christian education curriculum, which was taught throughout many congregations. He enjoyed professional sports of all kinds, especially football, basketball, and auto racing. He also had a love for model railroading, fishing, camping, family vacations, and enjoyed sketching.

Ted is survived by his wife Barbara Griggs and three children: Jared A. Griggs (Libby) of Springfield, IL, Jennifer L.White (Douglas Harrison) of Mt. Pleasant, and John W. Griggs (Janel Pickens-Loose) of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren Sydney, Ava, and Tanner White, Trysten Bonnett, Kyler Reynolds, and Nicholas Loose, and niece Susan Norton of Sedalia, MO.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents and sister Charlotte Craig.

A Celebration of Life for Ted will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. A Luncheon will immediately follow in the Reflections Reception Center. The family will receive friends the day of the service from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice or Community of Christ Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
