Obituary for Thomas George Minns

Thomas George Minns
MINNS, THOMAS GEORGE, age 74, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, June 11, 2018 at his home.

A Memorial Service for Tom will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Clark Family Funeral Chapel, with Benjamen Evers officiating. A luncheon will be held immediately following in the Reflections Reception Center at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tawas City Library Friends, 208 North Street, Tawas City, MI 48763. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Tom was born September 10, 1943, in Saginaw, to Jesse and Dorothy (Shovan) Minns. He graduated from St. Charles High School with the class of 1961, and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Central Michigan University in 1969. Tom married Suzanne Gould on June 18, 1966 in St. Charles, Michigan, and they were fortunate to spend 52 years together. He proudly served his country in the US Army. Living in the Blanchard area, Tom was an educator at Montabella Middle School, teaching biology and physical education. He also served as athletic director for a time and coached various sports at the middle and high school. His favorite was high school football. He loved the sport and was a true-blue University of Michigan fan. Tom and Suzanne moved to Mt. Pleasant until retirement, when they moved to the Minns family cottage on Tawas Bay. Tom enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, boating, and the camaraderie with many lifelong friends along the "South Beach". It warmed Tom's heart that his grandchildren also loved to spend time at the lake as much as he did.

Tom is survived by his wife Suzanne Minns of Mt. Pleasant; daughter Jennifer Curtiss; son Paul (Lisa) Minns; grandchildren: Devin Hopkins, Karlie Minns, Jess Minns, Jocelyn Epple, Joshua Epple, and Raegen Epple; sister Jane Burgess; brother-in-law Frank (Pamela) Gould; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law William "Mac" and Isabelle Gould; and a brother-in-law Harold Burgess.
